FOCUS09

FOCUS09 is an art and culture project that was held from 1st – 14th June 2009 in the voltahalle Basel, parallel to Art 40 Basel. It offered a platform for contemporary art with an emphasis on Africa and was designed as a lab to develop the concept for a new art fair in 2010.focusvolta

The project consisted of two main parts: a workshop and an exhibition.

In the first week artists from Senegal and Zambia came together for a performance during an open workshop. In the second week FOCUS09 welcomed a variety of international artists who presented more artworks that deals with manifold images of the African continent and its diasporas. Various side-events promoting culturally diverse art and designed to contribute to the development of the art fair in 2010 accompanied FOCUS09.
